of faith and food

After a longggg usrah hiatus, yesterday we were all united again talking about the 4 women who were promised Jannah. I'm not gonna go over them but just gonna share the lessons that I've learned. We have only started with Asiah, Firaun's wife, yesterday so here goes :

That we will be tested with what we love most and the most dear to us.
Say if we love our wealth a little bit too much, Allah will test us with our wealth, maybe lost of wealth or tested with abundance of wealth but we won't be thankful for it. Firaun was tested with his wealth.

That Allah's protection is much more than a mother's protection.
When Allah gave revelation for Prophet Musa to be placed in a basket and put into a river, Musa's mother confidently let him go into the river with tawakal and full faith that Musa will be in good hands.

That what can block you from seeing the truth is arrogance.
When Prophet Musa was born, he was blessed by Allah in a way that if anyone who looks at him, their hearts will be filled with love. Even the midwife who helped deliver Musa (and at the same time is also Firaun's 'spy') fell in love with the bundle of love and did not report his birth to Firaun. But Firaun didn't have any love for Musa at all because of his arrogance.

That we should continue learning our deen even if our spouses are not doing the same.
Nowadays, usually it is the women who go to majlis ilmu or majlis agama. The number of men most of the time doesn't even reach half of the female audience, so some wives are actually complaining that it is them who are always on their feet trying to better themselves whilst their husband prefer to stay at home. However, Allah shows that Asiah has a tyrant husband but she never complains.

That it is easy to associate a person with what is shown on social media.
Don't judge anyone outwardly. Don't have opinion on anything. She might be hiding her faith in her heart.

And the one I love the most is this one.

That you can be strong with Allah despite whatever that you go through.
When my naqibah (the sister who leads the usrah) was in Yemen, she had to wear the niqab because that is what everyone is wearing. But when she wears the niqab, it feels as if she is alone with Allah, that she can freely do zikir whenever and wherever she wants because her face is covered, so people won't say she is crazy per se for talking or chanting to herself. And even if she smirks or do all kinds of facial expressions, others won't be able to see it so it is sort of an escapism from things that can bring trouble to her. She will only need to answer to Allah. I was like wow, I never thought of it that way. But it doesn't mean that I'm gonna wear just the same okay? Not yet, long way to go. Not sure if I can even go there :P

The end :)

I had an off day today and decided to go and try out that Cronut from Dotty's that everyone is raving about in Instagram. Go search! Hehe. I dragged my partner-in-crime along, my bestfriend, Mimi.

Here you go.
This Salted Egg Yolk Cronut is priced at RM11 per piece and I kid you not, for that price, it is so worth it! The layers of crispiness and the mix of sweet and salty filling is just to-die-for.
You must try this as soon as possible.

I had this lamb stew which was recommended by the very helpful waiter. Not too bad although I think they could use a little bit more flavour to add to it. I meant the lamb stew, not the waiter. Hehe

The shop is located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) at Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2. Same row with Mcdonald's.

After that, we had a quick stop at Paradigm Mall to fix my phone. I couldn't send out emails from my phone until it is finally fixed today. Hooray! Had to do it from my laptop every time. After getting it fixed, I had to send my date home a little bit earlier because she had an emergency.

Going to be on an early flight tomorrow and I have not packed my bags yet. Until I see you on my next post, take care :)

my aglio olio story

Super sleepy!
But I just need to mark one achievement of mine today :D

I was so inspired by Gordon Ramsay's Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner slot last weekend, where he has prepared 3 sets of meals complete with desserts and one of the meals happen to be my favourite - Aglio Olio Spaghetti! Kinda weird that I never thought of trying to cook it on my own (until today).

Aglio Olio has been my favourite kind of spaghetti since I ate the best at Italiannies years ago. Unfortunately, as they say all good things must come to an end and sadly, the quality and yumminess of their Aglio has deteriorated over the years :(

Anyways, I was so in the mood for cooking today so I bought capsicum, tomatoes and chilli flakes at Jaya Grocer and rushed back home. I've got the rest of the ingredients at home (being a BIG fan of spaghetti :))  )

Chopped, boiled, drained, stir-fried, deep fried.

My aglio was kind of a vegetarian spaghetti, you can say. Hehe (minus the frankfurter though). The next time around I'll throw in some olives. Yummm..everything, was my favourite. To side the pasta, I've prepared some simple marinated fried chicken (also inspired from the same show). Should've put in some paprika powder or curry leaves into the marinate for that extra umph but never mind, there is always next time, insyaAllah.

Voila, there you go!

Have set aside some for tomorrow's breakfast as well :P

So what's next on the menu huh? ;)

sago gula melaka

You know what I've been craving for, for the past few weeks?

Sago gula Melaka!
(a.k.a sago pudding ;) )

Here's how it looks like, credits to Google images

Or a fancier version of it

Haa.. the above version has got some colourings and garnishing.

Sedapnyewww.

Anyways, for the past few weeks I've been searching high and low for it at the Ramadhan bazaars, but surprisingly, no one sells them! I heard that it cools off the body and despite the heat that we've been facing since before Ramadhan, I couldn't find them sold anywhere, well, unless if I have them ordered at restaurants (read : Madam Kwan's). But, takkan la kan. Nanges la pergi Madam Kwan's just to order sago gula Melaka.

So today, I nekad to make sago gula Melaka on my own. I saw a cooking show doing a demo on how to make one sometime last week, so I guess it's a sign that I should make one for myself :P Actually it was very simple. Heee. I just needed the little sago, santan (coconut milk), gula Melaka (palm sugar) and pandan leaves. You can get the step-by-step guide here. I ran out of pandan leaves in my house, so mine didn't smell as good as they should've been, but it's okay 'cos they taste awesome :)) Anything with santan is of course awesome la  >.<

That was what I had for my buka puasa, aside from Keknul's chocolate cake. Felt so contented that I finally get to make something that I love eating, on my own. I gotta start being busy in the kitchen la kan. Cooking might just be something I could fall in love with!

Amboi.

Photos from last weekend

A few snapshots from last weekend date :)

Brunch at Madam Kwan's, Pavillion
Nasi lemak and teh tarik. Ooomph! Have not had their nasi lemak for ages!

My dessert, sago gula melaka. Sodap!

Another sweet treat from 'Delectable'. It's a cake called '7 sins'. Sounds sinful isn't it? *lol* Made from 7 layers of chocolates.

Good packaging eh?

But if fooled me! Did not taste as good as it looks, but anyhoo..

Those are about the only photos I took. Sedap kannn? Ciaoo!

Get-togethers of ♥ and passion

My weekend was filled with get-togethers with friends, in short L-O-V-E ♥. My darlings, babes who have seen and been through everything, the fall and the rise, the sad and the happy.

They talk about their dreams and ambition, great ones and some are already on its way. They have sad stories too, and yet, those never keep them from visualizing the future.

Some are full of plans; like there's no tomorrow. It's like they want to grab every single thing out of life, this and that.

It impressed me; cos it seems like nothing will stop them from their dreams and I really salute that and all of these actually made me feel way better because I guess there should be something that we should look forward to everyday to keep us going again and again, regardless of the downfall.

These triggered me of my own dreams and goals and such which I had long forgotten, and whilst online yesterday, I browsed through a local photographer's website. Its actually a SHE and she has previously gotten a Cleo Achiever's Award due to her outstanding work of portraiture. Amazing.

Then I remembered my passion, to find beauty in things, people, feeling, and translate them into pieces of art by words and pictures of expression. I wonder where has those gone to? It's time to continue the passion 'cos life's too short to be regretting over things that won't even matter.

Let's start with love :)

Blogs are dull without photos kan? Heh, so jom view (didn't take much that weekend anyhoo)

Raya holidays? So yesterday (!), Mari gembirakan hati tengok live band dan makan2 :P

Let's move on to a more cheery note, shall we? :D

Thursday 9th Sept 2010
Just a day before Raya. Training in the morning. Nasib baik jadi trainee jer. BUT, need to work in the office after lunch. Still very much numb inside.

Went back and slept because damn tired, plus didn't want to think about Raya.

8pm - Boss called, ajak dinner. Didn't want 'cos no mood. BUT she baited me with a movie (am a sucker for movies ok). So went out at 8-ish for dinner and later movie at Alamanda. We watched 'Step Up 3'. Highly recommended, you non-movie-buffs. Night went well, slept good too (nonetheless still with a little pain in the heart ya'll).

Friday 10th Sept 2010
First day of Hari Raya and I was working. Lucky thing the roads were clear (well they better be). I wore a dress to work. A rebel, you see :P Loads of work, but I went off at 7pm (which is kind of 'early'. No, seriously). Boss ajak watch movie (again I'm hooked) and go karaoke. So, off to IOI Puchong and watched 'Resident Evil : Afterlife', which to me sucked BIG TIME! Come on, Resident Evil is like one of the movies that has a great storyline and all the sequels are great, EXCEPT, for this one! This new sequel shows more CGI effects (like I care much juga) and more surprise elements. It literally killed the whole storyline. Ohh well! After movie, we headed to Neway and sang our hearts out until 4am. So there!

Saturday 11th Sept 2010
Practically slept the whole day until after lunch where I spent the rest of the day watching the telly.

10pm - Lene called ajak tengok movie (sigh, i can't live without movies, awesomeness). We watched 'Cats and Dogs', hilarious :P Next on our to-do-list-on-a-Saturday-night is of course, makan! And the hunt began in Bangsar (we wanted the famous nasi lemak) but the stalls were closed. The only packed (and open) makan place is Devi's mamak. So, with a bunch of McD takeaways, we continued our hunt (yeap babes, still food-huntin' even with McD in our very hands) in KL. Singgah sebentar di Chow Kit 'cos we saw a few stalls selling Raya goodies. Lene got herself a box of serunding daging. Nyum. I was't really into Raya, so tengok2 je la.And then (!), jeng jeng jengggg, we found a mamak in Bukit Bintang area (Estana Curry House) with not so many people BUT great food! Yay! I had nasi lemak + ayam rendang (or so) while Lene had nasi campur. Memang sedap. We went back at 4am (so I was actually wondering whether it was supper that we had or breakfast?). Hit the sack at 6am! Weeeeee..

Sunday 12th Sept 2010
Rest day (not..haha). Went to Sunway Pyramid by myself for some errands. Sometimes shopping alone is therapeutic. Seriously.

Monday 13th Sept 2010
Workday. Training in the morning. This time, I'm the trainer. Booo.

Tuesday 14th Sept 2010
My babe, Lene's birthday! Dengan baju yang ala-ala untuk dinner jazz gitu, we went for birthday dinner at Delicious, Bangsar. Food was lovely. I had Mama's Bolognese Spaghettini and Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert. Lene had Lasagne and Blueberry Crumble Pie. Memang tabik spring and memang worth and memang sangat puas hati.

We wanted to have a chill-out session listening to jazz in Alexis but unfortunately, they don't have any band playing that night. That definitely didn't take down our mood (of cos not!) and we straight went to the next best happening place, Sunway! Watched the live band playing. 2 thumbs up for the band, especially their lead vocals with whom we had a chat with as well, Dina. The crowd was small but still, sporting! Lene had a birthday song dedicated to her by the band. Woot! Thanks to the lovely Chindian waitress we made friends with at the bar (her name's also Lyn ;) )

IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE FUN NIGHT!

By then it was a little over 12am, and because I had to work (not to mention train) the next day, I need hit the sack early (otherwise we would have gone to Skybar as well, had the seats booked, mind you). Some other time, perhaps.

The night out really shifted my mood and I'm loving it :) Sebenarnya, now pun tengah no mood to have anything connected to Raya (even turned down a bestfriend's invitation to go menziarah) but I can't help it. Ok, gotta get this happiness radar up and up so that I can focus on work. Weee..

XOXO!

In the arms of an angel

I just realized that my blog entries does not have substance.Or enough of it.So I will try to have more of that in the upcoming entries.

Anyways, I went back to my hometown last week. Just a 4-day getaway, which I think is not enough at all. It's ok, I guess, because I will be back again in October. So for the whole of 4 days, my families have been stuffing me with good old Sarawakian food, from Mee Kolok to Mee Crispy to Kek Lapis to the dinner buffet in Hilton (to celebrate Mak's birthday).

That's my Mak with the 2 rascals

I wish I can have this everytime. Not the food (although I won't mind that at all). It's not really about the food anyway. It's the company of comfort. That's what I really want.

Imagine having a really bad day at work and at the end of the day, all you really want is just comfort and familiarity. You know, that feeling that you feel when you were little and tripped over something and fell down and all you wanted that time was your mum. Yes, that feeling of comfort.

Nowadays I feel like I need it badly. True, I am surrounded by great companions and all but it's different. Sometimes it goes to the extend that I thought I would go crazy. Literally.

I miss having someone (single or plural) who will be there no matter what. Who will be there regardless of what I've been through, who will be there regardless of what others say, good or bad. Someone who doesn't judge because when we start to judge, we might miss their good side.

Is this a phase? I need a good motivational read, again. Life is starting to get pretty boring.

It was a fun-filled weekend :D

First, a starter to the weekend, 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' (a must watch!)

Friday's movie crowd eh?

After long weeks of anticipating the moment where we would actually GO to the infamous Jalan TAR pasar malam, we finally (yes, we did) had the chance to grab fruitful of goodness, u just name it (except that I did not get the apam balik I was craving for).

Oh, I had to post these as well. These are the view I had on the way to the pasar malam. I took off at about 7pm.
  Told ya I love skies.

Sunday was spent with friends and families of CTMA (Citigroup Malaysia) where they had their family day. I've gotten dark again :(

 Cheesy face. Beautiful butterfly.

 Treasure hunt

My fav non-active sporting activity. Woot!
The kid's telematch. Sporting kids I must say :)

A briefing (sorta) for the kids before the game starts

Also, adults joining in :P Lookin' good there *lol*

Tug of war

A pretty sweet way to end a fab Sunday!

Weekends are like sunshine

There were many 'firsts' for me that weekend.

I got to finally see Elle's newborn boy. A first step to Taman Melati. A first to Elle's apartment. A first to have eaten Elle's fresh-cooked food (sedap!). I spent the day taking in the little baby's cute face. He's so small and so fragile and so bulat. Geram! Playing with Ainuur, Elle's 4 year old daughter who is absolutely adorable. I bet Elle has fantastic time raising her.Honestly if I (ever) have a daughter, I want to have a beautiful bond with her (sisterly, motherly, best-friend-ly, you name it). I want to watch my children grow up in front of my very own eyes. Must be a great gift to be watching the many phases your child goes through (feeling it feeling it).

After visiting, I took the Putra back to Kelana Jaya and head back home. At the time it was around 5 pm and I was already feeling kind of exhausted. But I'm stubborn, you see, 'cos then I decided since I still had time to spare for the day, why not go explore the new IOI Boulevard in Puchong (another first!).

Recently opened for more shopping and eating experience, the IOI Boulevard also holds flea market on weekends at the Palette Palette. So I took a brief walk around the area and was a little disappointed as there were only very few stalls opened and the crowd was well, disappointing! I take it as maybe the families are at the malls getting their kids ready for school, hence the not-so-happening flea markets. Oh well. Anyhoo, I can see that the IOI Boulevard will be the next IN lepak place as they have a lot of outdoor cafes, bars, salons, shops, bakeries etc. That's good, although I think the area is congested enough already.

Next on my first list is Cone Pizza (in IOI Boulevard). Yep, you got that right. Pizza made into a cone shape.

I chose to have Chicken in Creamy Sauce (err, something like that) and it IS indeed a delight :) 2 thumbs up for the outlet's serene atmosphere. A recommended dating spot, I must say. Heh.

Next, SPA!
Oh god, what a heaven it is to be pampered with sexy strokes in rose oil from head to toe (all, except for my boobs that is).

The Sembunyi Spa is located in the serene Cyberjaya, away from the husle of the busy city. Perfect for a getaway. There are a variety of spa packages that you can choose, including packages for couples ;)

For my spa retreat, I've chosen 'Calm Me Down' package which includes a 60-mins massage treatment and a special bath. For the massage, I had the 'Serenity' massage which is a traditional Balinese massage (long strokes with own techniques - good for the stressed body) and for the bath, I had 'In The Garden' (milk bath with flower petals).

Had the best quality time spent in the jacuzzi as well. Get this, overlooking the lake! :) I loveeee.. and spent a little time in the sauna and steam room. I wish I had a house with all these luxury. Heee.. (Aminnn..)

Weekends are like sunshine! ^_^

If you think happiness is all about sunshine, then nobody has told you about dancing in the rain

XOXO
